AC Coil and HVAC Cleaning in Tucson, AZ
Your air handler is where every bit of air in the house passes through. Dust that gets past the filter lands on the evaporator coil and the blower wheel, and a dirty coil makes the AC work harder for less cooling. We clean the coil, the blower and the air handler cabinet, and we can do the ducts on the same visit.

What’s included
What AC coil and HVAC cleaning includes
The air handler, sometimes called the furnace or the indoor unit, holds the parts that move and cool the air. When they are dirty, air moves slower, the coil cannot shed heat, and the system runs longer to hit the same temperature.
What we clean on a standard job:
- The evaporator coilThe indoor coil that cools the air. Dust on the fins acts like a blanket. We clean the fins with a coil cleaner and rinse or vacuum them clear. The method typically depends on the coil and how dirty it is. Ask us.
- The blower wheel and housingThe fan that pushes air through the ducts. Dust builds on the blades and throws the wheel out of balance, which is often the hum or rattle you hear.
- The air handler cabinetThe inside of the unit, the drain pan and the area around the filter slot.
- The condensate drain lineWe check it is clear. A blocked drain line is the usual cause of water around the air handler in a Tucson summer. Clearing it is typically part of the visit. Ask us.
- The filterWe check the size and tell you what your system takes.

Not part of this service: the outdoor condenser coil, refrigerant work, electrical repairs and anything that needs an HVAC license. If the tech sees a problem in those areas, you hear about it and we point you to an HVAC contractor. We clean systems. We do not repair them.
How it works
How a coil and HVAC cleaning goes
Three steps, and you know the price before any work starts.
- Call or send the formTell us the type of system (split AC, heat pump, gas furnace with AC, or a package unit on the roof), where the air handler is, and what you are noticing. You get a quote before anyone comes out.
- Inspect and cleanPower to the unit is switched off. The tech opens the cabinet, checks the coil, blower and drain, then cleans each part. The filter slot and cabinet are cleaned last.
- Reassemble and testThe cabinet goes back together, power goes back on, and the system runs so you can see and hear the difference. Most jobs typically take 1 to 3 hours depending on how dirty the coil is. Ask us and you get a time estimate with the quote.

Why Tucson is different
Why Tucson air handlers get so dirty
- A long cooling seasonThe AC can run from April into October. That is months of air passing over the coil every day, and months for dust to settle on it.
- Fine desert dustTucson dust is fine enough to get past a standard filter, especially one that is overdue. It lands on the coil fins and the blower blades.
- Rooftop package unitsMany Tucson homes have the whole system in one box on the roof. These take dust from every direction and sit in full sun. Tell us if yours is on the roof.
- Swamp cooler crossoverHomes that run a cooler and an AC on the same ducts push damp cooler air past the AC side. Damp dust sticks harder. See swamp cooler duct cleaning.
- Monsoon humidityFrom June 15 to September 30, humidity jumps and the coil runs wet for weeks. Dust on a wet coil turns into a film that does not blow off on its own, and a slow drain line can overflow.
Check your system
Signs your coil and blower need cleaning
- The AC runs longer than it used to and the house still feels warm
- Weak airflow from the vents even with a new filter
- A musty smell when the AC starts, strongest in the first minutes
- Water around the air handler or a wet spot on the ceiling below it
- A hum, rattle or whistle from the air handler
- Ice on the indoor coil or the refrigerant line
- You can see dust on the coil fins when you pull the filter
A dirty coil and a low refrigerant charge can look the same from the outside. We clean the coil. If the problem is refrigerant, we tell you and you call an HVAC contractor.

How often and how much
How often should the coil be cleaned in Tucson?
Typically every 1 to 2 years for a home that runs the AC most of the year, and every year if you also run a swamp cooler or have pets. A yearly look at the coil with the filter change tells you when it is time. Ask us if you are not sure.
What AC coil and HVAC cleaning costs in Tucson
The price depends on the type of system, where the air handler is (closet, attic, garage or roof), how dirty the coil is, and whether you add duct cleaning on the same visit. Call or send the form and we will give you a quote before anyone comes out. More on the duct cleaning cost page.
Is coil cleaning the same as duct cleaning?
No. Duct cleaning clears the ducts and registers. Coil and HVAC cleaning clears the air handler itself: the coil, the blower and the cabinet. Most people do both on the same visit, since clean ducts do not stay clean if the blower is pushing dust into them. See air duct cleaning.
Do you clean the outdoor unit?
No. The outdoor condenser is a separate job and often an HVAC contractor’s job. We clean the indoor side.
Will cleaning the coil fix weak airflow?
If the coil or blower is clogged, yes, airflow typically improves right away. If the cause is a crushed duct, a closed damper or a failing blower motor, cleaning will not fix it. The tech tells you what they see.
Do I need to turn the AC off before you come?
No. The tech switches the unit off before opening it and turns it back on when done.
Can you clean a rooftop package unit?
Typically yes. Tell us when you call so the tech brings a ladder and plans for the roof.
Will this lower my electric bill?
A clean coil moves heat better than a dirty one, so the system runs less to do the same work. We do not promise a number. It depends on how dirty the coil was and how you run the system.
Do you also change the filter?
We check the size and tell you what it takes. Bring the new filter and the tech will typically put it in. Ask us.
