Air Duct Cleaning in Tucson, AZ
Supply ducts, return ducts, registers and the blower compartment, cleaned as one system. We clear out the desert dust, monsoon debris and swamp cooler buildup that a Tucson home collects, so the air coming out of your vents is not the dirt that went in.

What’s included
What air duct cleaning in Tucson includes
An air duct cleaning covers the whole air path, not just the vents you can see. Dust that settles in the return side gets pulled through the blower and pushed back out of every supply register in the house. Cleaning only the supply side leaves half the problem in place.
Here is what we clean on a standard residential job:
- Supply ductsEvery run from the air handler to each room, including the branch lines and the boots behind the registers.
- Return ductsThe large ducts that pull air back to the system. In Tucson these collect the most dust, and in older homes they often run under the slab.
- Registers and grillesRemoved, cleaned and put back. These are the parts you see, and the parts that show the dust first.
- The blower compartmentDust that reaches the blower gets through the filter or around it. We clean the compartment so the fan is not pushing dirt back into clean ducts.
- The plenumThe box where the ducts connect to the air handler. Buildup here feeds every duct in the house.

Not part of this service: the AC coil, the dryer vent and any mold treatment. Those are separate jobs. See AC coil and HVAC cleaning, dryer vent cleaning and mold and duct sanitizing. If you want more than one done on the same visit, say so when you call and we quote it together.
How it works
How a duct cleaning visit goes
Three steps, and you know the price before any work starts.
- Call or send the formTell us how many bedrooms and bathrooms, what kind of system you have (furnace, heat pump, swamp cooler, or a mix) and what you are noticing. You get a quote before anyone comes out.
- Inspection and cleaningThe tech checks the ducts, the registers and the plenum first and points out anything that needs attention, like a disconnected duct or a crushed flex line. Then the registers are covered, the system is put under negative pressure with a vacuum, and brushes and air tools work the buildup loose from the far end of each run back toward the vacuum.
- Walk-throughRegisters go back on, the work area is cleaned up, and you typically see the result before the tech leaves.

Why Tucson is different
Why Tucson ducts need a different approach
Duct cleaning in Tucson is not the same job as duct cleaning in a wet climate. The dirt is different, the systems are different, and the houses are different.
- Desert dustTucson dust is fine and dry. It gets in around doors, windows, attic hatches and any leaky duct joint. Once it is in the return side, the system spreads it to every room. A new filter helps, but a filter does nothing for dust already inside the ducts.
- Dust storms and monsoon seasonFrom June 15 to September 30, monsoon storms push dust and debris into attics and crawl spaces. Any gap in the ductwork lets it in. The first weeks after a big storm are when we get the most calls about dust blowing out of vents.
- Swamp coolersMany Tucson homes still run an evaporative cooler, often through the same ducts as the furnace or AC. Cool, damp air plus desert dust leaves a film on the inside of the ducts and a musty smell when the cooler starts up in spring. If your home has a cooler, tell us. The ducts get cleaned the same way, but the damp side of the system needs a look too. More on swamp cooler duct cleaning.
- Adobe, block and older homesA lot of Tucson housing was built before flexible attic ducts were common. Many older adobe and block homes have metal ducts that run in or under the slab. These underground runs collect debris for decades, can hold moisture after a storm, and need the right tools to reach. They typically take longer and need the right tools. Ask us about under-slab ducts when you call.
- A long cooling seasonThe AC in a Tucson home can run from April into October. That is months of air, and dust, moving through the ducts every day.
Check your home
Signs your air ducts need cleaning
- Dust puffs out of a register when the system starts
- A film of dust comes back on furniture a day or two after you clean
- One room is dustier than the rest, which often points to a leaky or dirty return
- A musty smell when the AC or cooler runs
- You can see dust, debris or mold on the inside of a register or just behind it
- Droppings, nests or insects in the ducts, which happens in attics and under slabs
- You just moved in, finished a remodel, or had a dust storm get into the house
If none of these sound like your home, your ducts may not need cleaning yet. A new filter and a vent wipe-down may be enough. Call and ask. We would rather tell you no than clean ducts that are already clean.

How often and how much
How often should ducts be cleaned in Tucson?
There is no fixed schedule. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association suggests every 3 to 5 years for a typical home. In Tucson, a few things move that sooner:
- A swamp cooler running through the same ducts
- Pets, especially ones that shed
- A remodel, new flooring or drywall work
- A dust storm that got into the attic or house
- Moving into a home where you do not know when the ducts were last cleaned
What air duct cleaning costs in Tucson
The price depends on the size of the home, the number of registers, the type of system and how easy the ducts are to reach. Ducts under the slab take longer than flexible attic ducts. Call or send the form with your bedroom and bathroom count and we will give you a quote before anyone comes out. More on the duct cleaning cost page.
How long does air duct cleaning take?
Most Tucson homes typically take 2 to 4 hours. Larger homes, more registers, two systems, or ducts under the slab take longer. Ask us and you get a time estimate with the quote.
Do I need to be home during the cleaning?
Yes. Someone needs to let the tech in, show where the air handler and the registers are, and give access to the attic or crawl space if the ducts run there.
Will duct cleaning fix my dust problem?
It removes the dust that is already inside the ducts, which is what blows out of the registers. It does not stop new dust getting in. If dust is coming in through leaky duct joints or gaps around the house, the cleaning helps for a while and then the problem returns. The tech will tell you if that is what is going on.
Does duct cleaning improve air quality?
It removes dust, debris and buildup from inside the system, and it helps with dust blowing out of vents and with musty smells. The EPA says duct cleaning has not been shown to prevent health problems, so we do not promise that.
Do you clean swamp cooler ducts as part of air duct cleaning?
If the cooler shares ducts with the furnace or AC, yes, those ducts are part of the job. The cooler itself and its pads are a separate service. See swamp cooler duct cleaning.
Can you clean ducts that run under the slab?
Typically yes. Underground metal ducts in older Tucson homes take longer and need the right equipment, so ask us when you call. If a duct under the slab has standing water or damage, we will tell you before doing any work.
Should I replace the filter after a duct cleaning?
Yes. A fresh filter after the cleaning keeps the clean ducts clean longer. We will tell you what size your system takes.
